When God Asked Me to Stay Still — and the Mission Moved Forward

For the past few months, I haven’t traveled.

For someone whose heart and hands are often thousands of miles apart, that absence of movement felt unsettling at first. I’m used to showing up physically—walking dusty roads, sitting face-to-face with our team, holding hands, listening, praying together. For me, travel has always felt deeply connected to how I serve through The Angel Projects of America.

But this season was different.

Instead of boarding planes, God asked me to stay still. And in that stillness, He reminded me of something essential: this mission has never depended on my physical presence alone.

While I remained in one place, the work of The Angel Projects continued—quietly, faithfully, and powerfully.

  • Children kept learning.

  • Elderly neighbors kept receiving care, meals, and dignity.

  • Greenhouses kept growing nourishment.

  • Young people continued gaining computer skills that open doors far beyond their villages.

None of that paused because I wasn’t there in person.

From afar, I’ve watched our local team lead with compassion and responsibility. I’ve seen lives change through photos sent late at night, phone calls filled with updates, and prayers shared across oceans. I’ve witnessed how deeply rooted this work has become—not in one person, but in a community committed to lifting one another up.

This season taught me that God’s provision often shows up through people who say yes—not once, but continually.

It shows up through supporters who give quietly, faithfully, sometimes without ever meeting the lives they’re impacting. It shows up through donors who trust the mission even when the work isn’t always visible or dramatic. It shows up through prayers, encouragement, and steady belief that dignity, education, and care matter.

Staying still also taught me that sustainability is part of stewardship.

The Angel Projects Uganda was never meant to rely on constant urgency or burnout. It was meant to grow roots—deep ones. Roots in local leadership. Roots in consistency. Roots in relationships built over time, not trips counted on a calendar.

And because of that foundation, the mission has continued to move forward—even when I wasn’t moving.

I miss being there. I miss the hugs, the laughter, the shared meals, the tangible moments that remind me why this work exists. But I’m grateful for this season of clarity—because it confirmed something I’ve always believed:

  • This mission belongs to God.

  • It lives in the hearts of the people we serve.

  • And it is sustained by a community of supporters who walk alongside us, near and far.

If you are one of those people—thank you. Your faithfulness has allowed this work to continue, even in a season of stillness.

And as we look ahead, I do so with renewed trust, deeper purpose, and gratitude for a mission that keeps moving—guided, supported, and carried by many hands.

With love and deep gratitude for walking this mission with us,

Olivia Foster
