Nadege, one of our Angels, spent 4 years in Haiti and has just returned home to Illinois. These were her words when she first left everything in the US and moved to the mountains of Haiti to help the women and children there!
Footsteps through Haiti
Training for the race
“Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” Paul (Philippians 3:13-14)
I never thought that I was fit to be a missionary. I struggled being a youth leader because in my mind I never thought I was a good enough Christian. I had flaws that I thought would be stuck to me. I use to be so angry with God because I would ask him to get rid of those flaws, but they were tattooed on me.
In the mist of my insecurities God always made me feel special and important. When He put it in my heart to move to Haiti as a missionary I flipped out. I was not fit for the job. I probably said it a thousand times to my family and roommates that I thought God made a mistake.
I wasn’t ready to be a missionary. I called my brother Romison in tears one day and said “ Romy I don’t even look like a missionary” he said what does a missionary look like. He reminded me that a missionary is someone who is serving the Lord. They don’t look a certain way or dress a certain way.
I want wherever I go, Chicago or Haiti when people sees me they see the image of God. I want to love people; I want God to break my heart. I want him to mold me into who he wants me to be. Every moment in my life was a moment that I was training to be a missionary.
I never realized that but God knew all along. He blessed me with wonderful family, friends and church to help me train. The training process wasn’t easy and it will never be easy but knowing that God has a plan makes it easier. Its motivation to me to know after all the training I will receive a prize.
The race isn’t easy but it’s worth running. Remember, everyday is training. “God doesn’t chose you for who you are, but chooses you for who you will be” Pastor Abony
